What's the story?
On the evening of Friday 26th May 1989 Arsenal travelled to Anfield for a League Title decider against red-hot favourites Liverpool. To clinch their first title in 18 years The Gunners had to win by two clear goals but entered stoppage time only 1-0 up and the title appeared to be staying in Merseyside. With seconds remaining, a long ball from Lee Dixon was controlled by Alan Smith and knocked into the path of Michael Thomas. The midfielder's touch hit Steve Nicol and bounced through to give Thomas a one-on-one which he calmly clipped into the net to send the away supporters into pandemonium. The boys from Highbury were Champions for the first time since 1971 in the most dramatic circumstances possible.
